Official Position of the QAEA: Elitism Has No Place in Our Fandom

The Québec Anthropomorphic Events Association (QAEA) states unequivocally that elitism has no place in our community. The QAEA, its bodies, and its representatives will never defend, endorse, or normalize any worldview in which individuals consider themselves superior because of their costume, experience, status, or visibility.

The anthropomorphic fandom is — and must remain — an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming space for everyone. Wearing a full suit, a partial suit, a simple accessory, or no costume at all does not make anyone “more” or “less” furry than another. Our community is built on creativity, respect, passion, and mutual support. It is not — and will never be — built on hierarchy.

The Association and Its Titles: No Hierarchical Power

Even when a member expresses a personal opinion, it is essential to remember that the QAEA, its titles, roles, and responsibilities cannot be used to legitimize an elitist vision.

Titles within the Association — whether administrative, volunteer, or honorary — exist solely to ensure the management, organization, and support of the community. They do not grant any superiority over other members of the fandom and cannot be invoked to impose a vision that contradicts the values of the QAEA.

Any attempt to use a role or status to:

  • demean other members;

  • establish a hierarchy based on costume, experience, or visibility;

  • impose an elitist worldview;

will be considered incompatible with the fundamental values of the Association.

Commitment of the QAEA

The QAEA is committed to:

  • maintaining an inclusive, equal, and safe environment;

  • protecting equitable access to activities and events;

  • intervening when elitist behaviors harm the harmony of the fandom;

  • reminding everyone that each member has equal value, regardless of their level of involvement or resources.

Invitation to Members Who Disagree With These Values

We invite anyone who adheres to an elitist vision of the fandom to make a clear choice:

  • adopt and respect the values of the QAEA, based on inclusion, equality, and respect;

  • or leave the Association if these values do not align with their vision of the fandom.

The QAEA will never compromise its commitment to a community that is open, caring, and accessible to all.
