Since the QAEA came into existence, it has heard all kinds of things: rumors, shortcuts, “someone told me…”, and bits of information that are barely or not at all grounded in fact. So, the Board of Directors (CA) decided it was time to set the record straight, without jargon and without detours: just the facts, presented simply and transparently.
Are there rumors or exaggerations about the QAEA?
Yes. Like many community organizations, the QAEA can be the target of criticism, perceptions, or rumors. It is important to distinguish between opinions, personal attacks, and verifiable facts.
What is the QAEA?
The QAEA is a non‑profit organization that promotes and celebrates anthropomorphic culture in Québec, notably through events and community projects.
Does the QAEA only organize conventions?
No. The QAEA also organizes gatherings, outings, and various events throughout the year.
Do you need to be a member of the QAEA to be a furry?
No. Membership in the QAEA is optional and has nothing to do with being a furry.
Do you need to be a member to participate?
Not always. Some activities are open to everyone, but membership offers advantages such as discounts, priority access to registrations, and voting rights at general assemblies.
Is membership expensive?
Not really. Regular membership (in 2026) is listed at $20 per year, with Benefactor at $35 and Super Benefactor at $50 per year. Did you know that regular annual membership works out to about $1.60 per month,roughly the price of a simple coffee?
Is it a monthly subscription?
No. Memberships listed by the QAEA are annual, not monthly. Fees are charged once every 365‑day period.
What’s the point of it all?
To bring the community together, support creativity, organize quality activities, and help promote this culture to the general public.
Does the QAEA control the fandom in Québec?
No. The QAEA contributes to community life, but it does not have authority over the entire fandom.
Does the QAEA have official authority?
Yes, but only over its own activities, collaborators, members, and internal structures.
Are the QAEA’s background checks fake?
No. Since May 2026, the QAEA has been officially sponsored by the Je Bénévole program of the Fédération des centres d’action bénévole du Québec (FCABQ). This partnership allows the QAEA to conduct judicial background checks that meet provincial standards for anyone wishing to:
- Join the Board of Directors;
- Participate in the Executive Committee;
- Join a committee or volunteer team;
- Act as an official collaborator during events.
These checks are carried out by a recognized organization, following FCABQ protocols, and validated before any official integration. They ensure safety, credibility, and legal compliance.
Can a member speak on behalf of the Association?
No. Only authorized spokespersons or members of the Board may speak officially for the QAEA. Members may share personal experiences or opinions, but they cannot represent the Association or engage its public responsibility.
What happens if a member commits a serious offense?
If a member commits a serious violation, unacceptable behavior, breach of the code of conduct, or a safety issue, the QAEA applies a clear internal procedure:
-
Immediate report to management or the event lead;
-
Assessment of facts by the Board or disciplinary committee;
-
Measures based on severity: warning, temporary suspension, or revocation of membership;
-
Documentation of the case for transparency and traceability.
The goal is not punishment, but to preserve safety, respect, and credibility.
Why is the “pup hood” prohibited at QAEA events but allowed at conventions?
QAEA events are designed to be family‑friendly, inclusive, and accessible to all audiences, including children and newcomers. The pup hood and accessories associated with Puppy Play or Pet Play belong to a distinct community with its own codes. Although this community deserves respect, its symbols originate from a fetish environment and do not align with the theme of QAEA furry events. For clarity and public comfort, these accessories are prohibited at QAEA activities.
Conventions, however, are private large‑scale events where organizers may tolerate more varied styles or themes. The QAEA applies a different policy suited to its public, community‑oriented mandate.
Why does this document exist?
Because between assumptions and half‑truths, it’s better to have a clear, simple, and direct version of what the QAEA is and what it is not.
Is it just a bunch of people with fancy ideas?
No. There are ideas, thankfully, but they serve to build something structured, useful, and lasting for the community.
Why formalize everything?
Because when a project grows, structure helps. Formalizing the QAEA allows for more serious organization of activities, greater transparency, and better long‑term community support.
Who decides what?
The QAEA operates with a clear structure. Major orientations fall under governance, while day‑to‑day decisions depend on project and activity organization.
Does the QAEA do projects in secret?
No. All projects are planned and approved by the Board, then publicly announced when ready. Some projects may be prepared internally for logistical, financial, or partnership reasons, but that does not make them secret.
Is the QAEA involved in money laundering?
No. The QAEA is a registered non‑profit subject to the same legal obligations as any other NPO. Finances are transparent: every transaction is recorded, verified, and approved by the Board. Funds come exclusively from memberships, donations, and community partnerships, and are used to finance activities and projects. No financial operation can occur without internal validation, eliminating any possibility of laundering.
I don’t want to join because of the president and what I’ve heard about him.
The QAEA is a non‑profit structured around bylaws and a collegial Board. The president does not act alone: all decisions are voted on and validated collectively. The president’s functions are administrative and representative, not personal. Rumors or personal perceptions do not reflect the Association’s real functioning. Everyone is free to join or not, but it is recommended to rely on institutional facts rather than opinions.
I heard you pay yourselves things or even a salary with members’ money.
No. The QAEA is a registered non‑profit. No Board member, including the president, receives a salary. Funds are used to:
- Finance activities and events;
- Cover essential administrative costs (rent, materials, insurance, etc.);
- Support community projects approved by the Board.
All expenses are verified, recorded, and approved collectively. Financial reports are available on the official website.
I was told I get nothing with my membership. Is that true?
No. Since the Board restructuring, the QAEA has implemented a clear, fast, and traceable system for delivering membership benefits. Average timelines:
- PVC membership card → ~1 week after confirmation;
- T‑shirt for new Super Benefactor → delivered during the security period or earlier when possible;
- Upgrade to Super Benefactor → processed within 3–7 business days.
Why so many false rumors?
Several reasons:
- Jealousy or personal rivalries;
- Dislike of a person or decision, turning opinions into accusations;
- Lack of understanding of how the QAEA actually works;
- “Group effect,” where people repeat rumors without checking;
- Human factors: emotions, misunderstandings, or simple communication errors.
The QAEA prioritizes transparency and fact‑checking. Everyone is encouraged to consult official sources before judging or sharing information.
Conclusion
Rumors and misinformation often arise from misunderstanding, but transparency always restores truth. The QAEA acts with rigor, openness, and respect. Every policy, decision, and project is based on collaboration, inclusion, and responsibility. This document aims to clarify facts, correct misconceptions, and strengthen trust between the Association and its members. When in doubt, it’s always best to verify information at the source simply email

Today, the QAEA celebrates its 2nd anniversary. Two years of building, learning, adjusting, and above all, collaborating. We have walked this path thanks to you, our 40 members, who chose to believe in this vision and help it grow.
Thank you to everyone who, from the very beginning, has offered their time, ideas, expertise, and trust. Your commitment is the driving force that allows the QAEA to develop and establish itself as a credible and structured organization.
We also wish to acknowledge all those who, whether closely or from a distance, have questioned, critiqued, or observed our evolution. These perspectives, sometimes demanding, have pushed us to clarify our mission, strengthen our foundations, and improve our practices. They have, in their own way, helped increase awareness of the QAEA and confirmed the relevance of our work.
The QAEA moves forward.
The QAEA grows stronger.
The QAEA continues to build itself with rigor, transparency, and determination.
Thank you to each and every one of you for making these first two years possible.
The future looks even more promising, and we will build it together.

The Québec Anthropomorphic Events Association (QAEA) states unequivocally that elitism has no place in our community. The QAEA, its bodies, and its representatives will never defend, endorse, or normalize any worldview in which individuals consider themselves superior because of their costume, experience, status, or visibility.
The anthropomorphic fandom is — and must remain — an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming space for everyone. Wearing a full suit, a partial suit, a simple accessory, or no costume at all does not make anyone “more” or “less” furry than another. Our community is built on creativity, respect, passion, and mutual support. It is not — and will never be — built on hierarchy.
The Association and Its Titles: No Hierarchical Power
Even when a member expresses a personal opinion, it is essential to remember that the QAEA, its titles, roles, and responsibilities cannot be used to legitimize an elitist vision.
Titles within the Association — whether administrative, volunteer, or honorary — exist solely to ensure the management, organization, and support of the community. They do not grant any superiority over other members of the fandom and cannot be invoked to impose a vision that contradicts the values of the QAEA.
Any attempt to use a role or status to:
-
demean other members;
-
establish a hierarchy based on costume, experience, or visibility;
-
impose an elitist worldview;
will be considered incompatible with the fundamental values of the Association.
Commitment of the QAEA
The QAEA is committed to:
-
maintaining an inclusive, equal, and safe environment;
-
protecting equitable access to activities and events;
-
intervening when elitist behaviors harm the harmony of the fandom;
-
reminding everyone that each member has equal value, regardless of their level of involvement or resources.
Invitation to Members Who Disagree With These Values
We invite anyone who adheres to an elitist vision of the fandom to make a clear choice:
-
adopt and respect the values of the QAEA, based on inclusion, equality, and respect;
-
or leave the Association if these values do not align with their vision of the fandom.
The QAEA will never compromise its commitment to a community that is open, caring, and accessible to all.
